Jane Hargrave
Jane Hargrave

Born London, Chelsea Studios in 1956. She lived in Paris and Moscow during her childhood and spent five years in a Catholic Convent boarding school. Her early educational experience culminated at a South London Comprehensive, art and dance being her strengths.
It was more by chance than design that she later became involved in promotional, photographic and film work.

Living and working in Rome, London, New York and Tokyo, she was photographed by many including David Bailey and the late Lord Patrick Litchfield. She was also sculpted in bronze by the late Enzo Plazzotta and life size statues of her adorn both a square in Tokyo and an English Lord’s garden.

In 1989 she studied at Richmond School of Art and went on to Chelsea School of Art and Design in 1992. Since then she has continued to develop her own artistic language, employing a variety of mediums such as oil paint, watercolour, acrylic, gouache, inks, graphite and charcoal. Her imagery is eclectic, ranging from studies of the human form to imaginary landscapes, and from ‘ nature morte' to abstract.

Her inspirations and insightful observations of the universe are often drawn from the vicissitudes of her own life experience, relating to the historical, political, psychological and mythical, embodying responses to our human condition, with its visions and its monsters.

Of her work the artist quotes Odilon Redon :- “What good is it to reveal anything except the result”.
Currently Jane works both at her studios in Teddington and Wimbledon.
